Welcome to my home: Let’s make healthy living simple.
If you’re ready to learn more about the recipes and tips on this website and its creator, this is the best place to start!
This blog is designed to help you cook healthy, clean food for your family and find simple ways to make your home a healthier place, all without all day in the kitchen or spending a fortune! Clean living doesn’t have to be stressful, and I’m here to make it easy for you.
My Clean Living Philosophy
We’re healthiest when we live closer to nature and the way God designed. Whether I’m talking about the ingredients in my coconut sugar ice cream, homemade laundry detergent, or DIY skincare, the more we get away from processed ingredients and synthetic chemicals, the better!
I’m not about restrictive diets or cutting out entire food groups—real foods like dairy, fruit, and fat all have a place in a healthy diet. Still, I understand the challenges of allergies and sensitivities (my husband has his own!), and I believe delicious, nourishing food is possible no matter your needs.
Clean living doesn’t have to be complicated, stressful, or expensive—and I’m here to show you how!

Clean Food to Support Your Health
Learn to cook from scratch using nourishing ingredients
I’ve loved being in the kitchen for as long as I can remember, but my passion for healthy eating really began in high school when I noticed how food affected how I felt and saw others struggling with allergies.
When I met my husband, who has Crohn’s disease, creating nourishing, delicious meals became even more important. For years he had struggled to find foods that didn’t trigger a flare, and I wanted to change that!
The more I learned, the more I realized that the problem was with our modern idea of food – processed flour, refined sugar, artificial ingredients, the list goes on and on. As I stopped cooking with processed ingredients, my husband’s health dramatically improved. During this process, I started to create my own recipes using unprocessed ingredients, and now I publish all of them on this blog.
Since then, my cooking skills and clean eating knowledge have grown, and feeding my family healthy, home-cooked meals has become a way of life that I’m passionate about sharing with others. These days, you’ll often find me in the kitchen making from-scratch Salisbury steak (a family favorite) or whipping up a batch of healthy gluten-free cookies for dessert.

Behind the Scenes
How Right at Home with Violet Got It’s Start
My heritage of from-scratch meals and old-fashioned ingenuity has inspired me and given me the knowledge I need to create clean recipes that taste amazing and simple DIYs that support a healthy lifestyle.
Growing up in a family with Amish roots, I learned everything from cooking to creating practical DIYs from a young age. Just like the generations before me, I had a knack for old-fashioned skills which served me well when I started fermenting food, crafting tallow creams, and cloth diapering my babies.
When we discovered that many of my husband’s autoimmune issues were caused by diet and household toxins, we had to quickly find simple and affordable solutions. It surprised me how many so-called “healthy” recipes and DIYs had ingredients we were avoiding, so I created and tested my own ideas instead.
I also found that many traditionally unhealthy foods shouldn’t be. Who said Thanksgiving green bean casserole had to be made with canned soup anyway? My goal is to make all of the classic favorite foods for my family without all the processed ingredients, and I’m excited to share those recipes with you too!
If you’ve ever wanted to create your family’s favorite meals without the junk or tried to ditch toxins but were too overwhelmed, this blog is for you! I’m passionate about living a clean lifestyle that fits into my family’s normal routine, and I enjoy helping others learn how to do that as well.

Our Story
The power of clean living for health

I’m passionate about clean living because I’ve seen the results it can have, and I truly believe it can change others’ lives, just like it has ours!
My husband Andrew was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease as a young teenager, and he spend the next years trying to stay healthy enough to function. He and his family weren’t comfortable with the long list of medication side effects, and from a young age he was convinced that there was a better way.
As a teenager, Andrew tried various diets, but nothing really stuck or seemed to do very much good. As he entered his 20’s, he slowly learned the foods that bothered him and ended up on a very restrictive diet that still didn’t transform his health.
The first big step to reclaiming his health was discovering the power of probiotics through Jordan Rubin’s books. He also learned more about clean eating through Rubin who had himself recovered from Crohn’s, but, as a single college student, it all seemed too overwhelming.
Andrew and I were married in 2020, and, over the next couple of years, we realized that what he was doing for his health wasn’t working. Neither of us were comfortable with the idea of major long-term medication, so our only option was to go all in on natural health.
Through functional medicine, we learned so much about clean living, and I learned a totally new way to cook. From beef bone broth simmering on the stove to homemade sauerkraut fermenting in the cabinet, before long my small apartment kitchen was taken back to a time before processed foods.
We also did a major detox on our home. We did everything from swapping our toothpaste to buying non-toxic kitchen bakeware to filtering our water.
The results took time (and we wondered for a while if it was doing any good), but within a year, Andrew’s health began to turn around. Not only was his health much more stable, but he was able to enjoy various foods he previously couldn’t.
My health also improved in areas I never expected it to! While I had always been relatively healthy, my hormones quickly balanced, and within the next few years had multiple extremely easy pregnancies, births, and postpartum recoveries.
Fast forward to today, Andrew is able to work a physical job 50+ hours a week when just a few years ago a desk job was hard. His health still isn’t perfect, but the more we live clean lives the way we believe God intended, the more results we see.
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom.

About Me
Hello, I’m Violet!
I’m the creator and recipe developer behind Right at Home with Violet.
My husband Andrew and I have been married for five years and have two young kids. We currently live in central North Carolina, but we’ve also called Colorado and northern Idaho home. While I’ve enjoyed living in different parts of the country, I feel most at home in the middle of the Rocky Mountains!
I love being outdoors—whether hiking, strolling through farmers’ markets, or walking with the kids. One of my next goals is to have a big garden (and then maybe chickens – we’ll see)!

Cooking and DIYs have always been passions of mine. From experimenting with international recipes as a teenager to preparing all my meals from scratch in college, you’ll rarely find me far from the kitchen (and it’s not always food I’m making). Before my daughter was born, I also ran a 5-star tallow skincare business, which gave me hands-on experience with old-fashioned, natural living and clean skincare products.
Over the past few years, healthy cooking and clean living have become even more important with kids. From pregnancy to toddlers, I’ve learned how to adapt meals for food aversions, picky toddler tastes, and changing family needs. My husband’s health challenges made it clear how crucial it is to avoid processed foods and household toxins, and that’s shaped the way I cook and care for our home.

Like many moms, I don’t always have time to cook. My husband’s health challenges, though, make it impossible for us to rely on takeout regularly. Meal prep became our lifesaver. Now, there’s always a few home-cooked meals in the freezer for busy nights or unexpected food emergencies. During pregnancy, I always make postpartum meal prep a top priority, so we can have weeks worth of food ready for when the baby comes.
I love being a stay-at-home mom, but I also know budgets are real. That’s why I focus on creating delicious, wholesome, and budget-friendly meals and snacks for my family—and for you. On this blog, you’ll find recipes and ideas that make healthy living simple, approachable, and completely doable.
