Good skincare can be so tricky! Over the years I’ve tried a number of different brands and DIYs, but everything was either too expensive, didn’t work, or was filled with chemicals I didn’t want on my skin.

I am so excited to finally have a facial cleanser that is natural, affordable, and works as good as the best store-bought cleanser I’ve ever tried! It has 3 simple, easy to find, natural ingredients, and only takes a few minutes to make.

I love how this face wash is moisturizing and safe for every type of skin, including sensitive skin. I even use it as body wash for my toddler!

What’s Wrong with Conventional Face Wash?

Many face washes are filled with various chemicals such as the ones listed below.

Parabens – Studies have suggested that parabens may disrupt the endocrine system which negatively impacts hormones.

Sulfates – It’s widely known that sulfates can irritate your skin, eyes, and lungs. If you already have sensitive skin, it’s especially important to avoid these chemicals!

Fragrance – This word covers 3,500 ingredients so you don’t know what specific fragrance chemicals are in certain products. Certain chemicals used as fragrance (such as styrene) can disrupt hormones, may increase the risk of cancer, and cause allergic reactions.

Phthalates – Studies have shown that phthalates decrease testosterone in men, women, and children. This chemical has also been shown to affect children’s neurological development.

Alcohol – We all know that alcohol is drying, so why would it be in cosmetics designed to improve skin? The bad news is that it’s an extremely common ingredient in face wash.

Phenoxyethanol – This chemical can cause severe allergic reactions and, in 2008, the FDA recalled a product that used it due to concerns about it impairing infants’ nervous systems.

Formaldehyde – In cosmetics formaldehyde commonly causes skin irritation, however, it also increases the risk of developing cancer.

PEG – While PEG hasn’t been shown to be harmful by itself, it’s frequently contaminated with other chemicals.

For all skin types – Whether you have dry, oily, combination, or sensitive skin, this face wash will work for you!

Affordable – Many natural skincare products are expensive, but this is cheaper per ounce than even drugstore brands of cleansers!

Quick & easy – It only takes a few minutes to put together and it lasts most people at least a few months.

Who Can Use this Face Wash

This face wash is made with gentle, non-irritating ingredients, so it’s perfect for people with every skin type, including sensitive skin.

If you want to use it on children, I recommend leaving out the lavender essential oil or reducing it by at least 50%.

Tools You May Need

Ingredients for homemade face wash on a wooden surface.

Ingredients

Castile soap – For best results, use unscented liquid Castile soap that hasn’t already been diluted. Since it has so many uses besides face wash, I like buying it in bulk to save money.

Castor oil – Cold-pressed castor oil is best for skincare.

Lavender essential oil – Use a high quality lavender essential oil for the most benefits. If you want to use this face wash on children, I recommend leaving out the lavender essential oil or reducing it by at least 50%. For a different scent, try substituting other skin-safe essential oils!

Water – Make sure to use clean drinking water, or better yet, distilled water, to avoid contaminating your face wash.

First pour the Castile soap and castor oil into the spray bottle. Usually the spray bottle comes with a small funnel which will make this easier, however, it’s not absolutely necessary.
