Good skincare can be so tricky! Over the years I’ve tried a number of different brands and DIYs, but everything was either too expensive, didn’t work, or was filled with chemicals I didn’t want on my skin.

Once I started making my own tallow balm recipe, it just made sense to try DIY face wash too. I am so excited to finally have a facial cleanser that is natural, affordable, and works as good as the best store-bought cleanser I’ve ever tried!

I love how this face wash is moisturizing and safe for every type of skin, including sensitive skin. I even use it as body wash for my toddler!

Why You’ll Love this DIY

Feels great on your skin – This moisturizing cleanser will leave your face feeling fresh and clean!

Won’t clog your pores – Even though this cleanser is moisturizing, it’s made with ingredients that won’t clog your pores.

Healthy ingredients – Made with only simple, natural ingredients, you don’t have to worry about putting synthetic chemicals on your face.

Safe for all skin types – The ingredients in this cleanser are simple and natural and are safe for every type of skin.

Affordable – Many natural skincare products are expensive, but this is cheaper per ounce than even drugstore brands of cleansers!

Quick & easy – It only takes a few minutes to put together and it lasts at least a few months.

Who Can Use this Face Wash

This face wash is made with gentle, non-irritating ingredients, so it’s perfect for people with every skin type, including sensitive skin.

If you want to use it on children, I recommend leaving out the lavender essential oil or reducing it by at least 50%.

Tips for Success

Use undiluted Castile soap – Diluted Castile soap won’t work as well in this recipe and often contains additives you shouldn’t put on your face.

Swap other essential oils – If you love a certain scent or want to take advantage of a benefit of another essential oil, feel free to swap other skin-safe oils for the lavender oil.

Always shake well before using – The ingredients will separate, so you want to make sure to recombine everything each time before using.

Violet’s Tips for Using

For optimal results, use this face wash once in the morning and at night before bed. Simply spray a small amount into your hands, lather onto your damp face, and rinse with warm water.

FAQs

Can I use other essential oils in DIY face wash?

Yes, you can substitute the lavender oil in this face wash for any other skin-safe essential oil or essential oil blend.

Will homemade face wash dry out my skin?

No, the castor oil in DIY face wash helps to moisturize your skin so it won’t get dry. Also, just like any other face wash, it’s best to follow it with a moisturizer such as DIY tallow balm.

Ingredients

  • Castile soap – For best results, use unscented liquid Castile soap that hasn’t already been diluted. Since it has so many uses besides face wash, I like buying it in bulk to save money.
  • Castor oil – Cold-pressed castor oil is best for skincare.
  • Lavender essential oil – Use a high quality lavender essential oil for the most benefits. If you want to use this face wash on children, I recommend leaving out the lavender essential oil or reducing it by at least 50%. For a different scent, try substituting other skin-safe essential oils!
  • Water – Make sure to use clean drinking water, or better yet, distilled water, to avoid contaminating your face wash.
