Luxurious Skincare Inspired by Nature
Since I started learning how to care for my body naturally, I’ve loved creating my own skincare! From tallow balm to face wash to body butter, it’s so much fun to use simple, traditional ingredients to create products that work as well as (or even better!) than store-bought options.
This sugar scrub is one of my favorite parts of my routine. It feels incredible and always leaves my skin feeling soft, smooth, and refreshed. Even my blue-collar husband enjoys using it and loves how it feels on his skin!

Step-By-Step Instructions

Step 1: First, in a mixing bowl, stir together the melted tallow, avocado oil, and essential oil.
Then place the mixture in the fridge to chill for 45-60 minutes, or until it’s firm all the way through. (It doesn’t need to feel rock solid, but it needs to be firm enough to easily whip.)

Step 2: Next, use a stand mixer or electric beater with a whisk attachment to whip air into the chilled mixture. You’ll need to start slow and gently increase the speed as you go.
Whip until it’s light and fluffy and looks similar to a thick icing. This usually takes less than 5 minutes.

Step 3: Now whip the sugar into it until it’s mixed through.

Step 4: Finally, scoop the body scrub into jars and enjoy!
Tips for Success
Use a double boiler – If you melt tallow too quickly, it can burn which will lead to a darker color and unpleasant smell. If you don’t have a double boiler, you can melt tallow in a bowl over a pot of boiling water instead.
Avoid contact with water – Water in sugar scrub can lead to mold, so be careful to avoid getting any water in it, especially during the melting process.
Fully chill before whipping – If you try to whip it and add the sugar before the mixture has chilled enough, you won’t be able to successfully whip enough air into it. It always warms up as you whip it, so it’s better to start too cold than too warm.

Yes, the sugar in homemade scrub makes it extremely effective for exfoliating and refreshing your skin.
Sugar scrub can lead to dry skin, however, the addition of tallow helps prevent this.
No, sugar scrub can be too harsh for your face, and it’s designed for use on other, less sensitive, areas of your body such as your hands and feet.
For most people, body scrub should be used 1-2 times per week.
