Gluten-Free Salisbury Steak

Ingredients

Patties

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 onion grated or pureed
  • 1 tablespoon coconut flour
  • 1 tablespoon coconut aminos
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or any cooking oil
  • salt and pepper

Sauce

  • 1 onion sliced
  • 12 mushrooms cremini or white button, chopped
  • 2 cups beef bone broth
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or any cooking oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Beef Patties

  • Heat a large skillet on medium to high heat.
  • In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef, grated onion, coconut flour, coconut aminos, and ketchup.

  • Form the meat mixture into 8 patties and salt and pepper both sides.

  • Once the skillet is hot, add the oil and sear both sides of the patties. You may need to do this in batches to avoid crowding the pan. Remove from skillet.

Mushroom Gravy

  • Place the mushrooms, garlic, and remaining onion in the skillet and sauté until the onion begins to turn translucent. If the skillet starts to get dry, add a little more oil.

  • Add the broth, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, salt, and spices to the sautéed vegetables and stir.

  • Place the patties back in the skillet, and gently simmer on low to medium heat until the sauce has reduced to your preferred consistency.

Notes

Substitutions

  • Coconut flour - substitute oat flour
  • Coconut aminos - substitute Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, or amino acids
  • Ketchup - substitute tomato paste
  • Bone broth - substitute beef broth

Other Recipe Notes

  • To prep in advance, form patties and chop vegetables up to 2 days in advance. Store separately in the fridge until you're ready to cook.
  • Store leftover Salisbury steak in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or freeze for 2-3 months.
