Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, stir together the melted tallow, avocado oil, and essential oil.
1 cup tallow, 1/4 cup avocado oil, 1/2 teaspoon skin-safe essential oil
  • Gently pour it into glass jars (or whatever containers you want to store it in).
  • Let it set at room temperature for at least 45 minutes then move to the fridge to speed the cooling process.
  • When the tallow balm has fully set, store at room temperature and use as a daily moisturizer.

Notes

  • To prevent scorching, use a double boiler to gently melt the tallow. If you don’t have a double boiler, simply place it inside a heat-safe bowl over a pot of boiling water and melt it that way instead.
  • Water in tallow balm can lead to mold growth, so make sure to avoid getting any water in it during the melting process.
  • I used frankincense essential oil for this balm, however, you can use any type of skin-safe essential oil or essential oil blend. You can even leave out the essential oil if you prefer.
  • Tallow balm is shelf-stable and can be stored in a cool, dark location for up to a year.
